Summary of Matchbox

Some suggest the name Matchbox comes from the matchbox collections inlaid in each table, but once you squeeze inside Matchbox’s historic 15-foot wide building, you might think the name comes from the feeling that you’re packed inside a matchbox with a few hundred of your friends. Making your way through the sardine-packed happy hour crowd to get to the long oak bar that’s the centerpiece of the first floor will work up a significant thirst for one of Matchbox’s signature Quittin’ Time Cocktails, made from house-infused vodkas and rums. The effort is worth it, though, especially when you also order one of Matchbox’s small gourmet pizzas — such as the portobello, spicy meatball or chicken pesto — or the 3.6.9 little hamburgers, served in sets of three. Though small, the space is well utilized, with ample seating on the second and third floors and a working, exposed-gear dumbwaiter connecting the kitchen and bar to all three floors.
