If you didn’t think book buying could be a trendy experience, then you clearly haven’t been to Kramerbooks. This Dupont Circle bookstore and post-collegiate hipster hot spot is as see-and-be-seen as any bar or club in the District. Of course you’ll have to act like you’re there for the books, but how hard can that be? The actual selection is small, and focused primarily on hip new fiction and political tomes. Although the store is small and cramped, the setup is amazing: It’s somehow impossible to leave Kramerbooks without buying something. The local section is the main attraction, with a large selection of good maps and not-touristy D.C. guidebooks. Better than the books is the small bar, where acoustic acts play until late at night; and the even smaller restaurant, which features some of the best chocolate desserts around.
