Cafe du Monde
- quote:

Closed only on Christmas Day, the original Café du Monde coffee shop in New Orleans serves café au lait and beignets 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Besides coffee with chicory, soft drinks and orange juice are also available to quench your thirst. As for food, beignets are not just Café du Monde’s specialty – they are the only food item served. These delicious square, French-style doughnuts are generously covered in powdered sugar, so you might want to steer clear of wearing black (however we give you permission to blow some on your neighbor – especially if he or she is wearing black). Located across from tourist hot spot Jackson Square, Café du Monde can’t be beat for people-watching and passing the time. Just try to ignore the glares you’ll get from those who haven’t found a table. After having your palm read by one of the many sidewalk gypsies, stop in for breakfast, an afternoon snack or a late-night coffee fix (you’ll need it after traipsing up and down Bourbon Street until the early-morning hours).
