Heights Theater

Old Theater

This is (I believe) the only continuously running theater in Minnesota. It was remodelled recently- when I went there as a kid to see 3 run movies we used to joke that you had to make sure that you had your shoes on the way out because they would stick to the floor. But, a number of years ago it was purchased by the people who owned the Dairy Queen next door (perk- you can bring your dairy queen in the theater). They did extensive remodeling, including new curtains, which come up and down between the vintage ads and the movie, vintage lights, and period painting. They have a organist who plays before some shows. They play first run movies, as well as classics. I saw White Christmas there a couple years ago. And I'm going to see Gone with the Wind (with 16 reel changes). They are one of the few theaters that still has working equipment to show these classics in their original glory. If you are from the Twin Cities, or just coming to visit. Its worth the drive to Columbia Heights to catch a movie in this beautiful theater.
