Disappointed

Our friends and us spent 6 days at the Reach in early April 2008. I had spent several days with my son on a fishing trip several years ago and loved it. Why the changes in the decor, the lobby location, and the removal of the Beach Bar, which was the center of activity before dinner, meeting new friends, etc. The flavor of Old Key West seems to have been replaced by the nouveau art deco of South Beach Miami. Not to mention a smoke alarm went off the next to last night of our stay and we lost power during a violent thunderstorm. The latter I can live with, as it can be expected anywhere anytime. Certainly the Bar and Dining Room murals are not acceptable to a family with young children. I might try the Casa Marina next time but if that resort is moving to the same changes or motive, then I think I will pick a quality B&B with pool closer to town. I can say that the staff tried their best to make our stay pleasant, but there were too many comforts missing from the earlier Reach.
