Blue Bayou
- quote:
-
If a special dining experience is on your agenda for Disneyland, Blue Bayou is the place to go. Famous for the space it shares with the beloved Pirates of the Caribbean ride, the restaurant has its own separate entrance in the New Orleans Square section of the park. The first thing you’ll notice as you enter is how dark it is. Strategic lighting and make-believe fireflies are orchestrated to take you deep into the bayou at night, where a banjo plucks as boats from the pirates ride sail off for their journey. Come for lunch; the signature dish, the Monte Cristo, is not on the dinner menu. This turkey, ham and cheese sandwich is deep-fried and served with jam; the gooey and crispy, savory and sweet combination is worth all seven billion of its calories. Pork loin comes with root beer-spiced apples, or you can choose jambalaya, clam chowder or blackened chicken Caesar salad from the short menu. Kids’ meals appear in wearable pirate’s hats. If it’s a non-peak day at the park and an off time, you might be able to walk right in. But if you’re serious about your meal at Blue Bayou, you’ll want to make an advance reservation; request a waterside table to best enjoy the ambience, and then arrive early.
