The Island Hotel Bed & Breakfast, in Cedar Key, Florida, is on the National Register of Historic Buildings, and is one of Florida’s most famous Bed and Breakfasts. Built in 1859, the Island Hotel in Cedar Key is constructed from seashell tabby with oak supports. Its walls have withstood hurricanes for almost 150 years, and its sloping wooden floors have survived the passage of innumerable feet. Breakfast includes fresh brewed Columbian roast coffee or imported and herbal teas, fruit juice, toasted homemade bread, and a choice of the house-specialty cooked breakfast. Sit on a rocker on the long balcony and watch the sun set over the Gulf or relax in the cozy lounge bar, painted in 1948 with murals of Cedar Key and King Neptune, for whom the bar is named. Island Hotel features a restaurant where guests can feast on Crab Bisque and Heart of Palm Salad while dining in the “casually elegant” dining room or on the screened porch.
