Important Hotel Information:

No visit to the Gaylord Palms is complete without marveling at the massive four-and-a-half-acre atrium. Beneath that glass dome lies a virtual tour of the entire state, courtesy of dramatic and whimsical themed environments – displays that recreate the foliage, landmarks, and popular sights of each region depicted. Only five minutes from Walt Disney World, the Gaylord Palms is practically a theme park of its own.

Guest rooms feature oversized custom-made beds that will soothe your body and leave you relaxed and refreshed each day. Rooms have several themes, from the tropical colors representing Key West to the mosaic tiles and ironwork of Florida under Spanish rule that stand in for St. Augustine. Stroll just a few steps from your room and down Market Square’s charming street of upscale shops. Sweat off dessert or massage away aches at the Gaylord Palms’ exclusive branch of the famous Canyon Ranch Spa. With the widest selection of treatments in Central Florida, you have plenty to choose from. Indulge in a fragrant botanical body mask coupled with a warm oil massage, or a refreshing grape seed mud cocoon.

In an echo of the themed environments within the atrium, different areas of the resort embody different destinations in the Sunshine State, from the decor to the area-appropriate shopping and dining choices. An authentic Spanish fort lies at the end of the cobblestone streets of St. Augustine, while a lifelike alligator eyes you hungrily in the misty swamps of the Everglades. In the Key West atrium, you can even sip cocktails aboard a sailboat gently bobbing in the water.

folashade's rating:

"The best thing about this hotel is that it is bright, airy, and relatively new. Within one hotel, you can choose the type of hotel room you want to stay at – each room is meant to express Florida through various themes. Key West is a bit loud for my personal taste, but if you want a bright Caribbean themed room, then that is the one for you. Everglades has lots of greens and browns meant to evoke a sense of nature. St Augustine is fashioned after old world Spanish. My personal favorite is Emerald Bay with high beds, tasteful blues and gold, and heavy walnut furnishings. A very new feature in the hotel that was not there on my last visit was a computer in every room. You can check you room bill, surf the net, and make a housekeeping request. With the $10 resort fee, you get free high speed internet access, daily paper, free OJ and water daily, and access to the gym. Rooms overlook either the atrium or the grounds/pools. The entire hotel is encased in glass like a giant greenhouse. There are various paths laid out within the atrium with pools that house alligators, fishponds, and ever-changing sand art. The gym and spa is awesome a Canyon Spa facility. They also have several programs/babysitting services for kids. The one issue I have with this hotel is the lack of restaurants in a hotel this size. Your choices are a buffet restaurant, seafood restaurant that is only open for lunch and dinner and a steakhouse that while good is tiny and is often at capacity. Breakfast is pricey no matter how you look at it since you are held hostage at the hotel whims unless you content yourself with a bagel or muffin top at the 24-hour Java House or an $18 breakfast buffet or $30 room service meal. Great for large groups, Gaylord also has a large convention center on the premises and meeting rooms. Gaylord is really close to Disney being five minutes away by car and close to International Drive. The bars close fairly early given that so many rooms face into the atrium and the noise would disturb the guest facing it. But go to Auggie’s the dueling piano bar and order a Snickertini (tastes like a high-octane milkshake)"
