At this resort, Mickey’s all grown up – and has developed exquisite taste, shown off by the graceful modernist exterior. The lobby gleams with white and stainless steel, transforming the in-house Monorail stop from mere convenience to moving architecture. This style, reminiscent of I. M. Pei’s pyramid entrance to the Louvre, draws the eye to the lobby’s main feature: an eight-story mural masterpiece in vivid shades of gold, orange, rust and amber. As with the lobby, the guest rooms at Disney’s Contemporary Resort provide a study in contrasts – though many of these rooms defy the “less is more” logic, to the delight of guests. In these rooms, a Picasso-style bedspread in shades of maroon, teal and wheat may be offset with zebra print accents and checkered chairs. From elegantly curved lamps to oversized mirrors, each detail has been chosen for maximum artistic impact.

The Contemporary’s good taste extends to its restaurants as well. Chef Mickey’s Restaurant on the fourth floor provides buffet-style American cuisine with a Disney twist. The silver and glass decor of this family-friendly eatery is punctuated with dashes of red, yellow and purple. Kids will love packing away the peanut butter & jelly pizza and Mickey waffles with Cinderella by their side – character dining is one of the thrills of staying in a Disney resort, after all – and you can enjoy a juicy prime rib with Goofy as your dining companion. The California Grill, on the hotel’s 15th floor, offers spectacular views and excellent California cuisine in an upscale setting.

"chef mickey's is a wonderful family restuarant. It first opened on october 1, 1971. It has 72 tables and on a daily average seats 2100. So, take your family to chef mickey's when you visit Disney."

Close to Magic Kingdom

"I stayed at the Contemporary Resort in October, 2003. One of the biggest reasons to choose this place over some of the other Disney resorts is the convenience of the monorail, which runs right through the hotel’s main building at the 4th-floor concourse level. This makes it extremely easy to get to the Magic Kingdom (which is also within walking distance), Epcot, and the other Magic Kingdom area resorts (Grand Floridian and Polynesian). The hotel itself is very nice, with a beach, restaurants, shops, a large arcade and other deluxe amenities."

"The reason for the 4 star rating was because the hotel needed updating. Otherwise my family and I loved it – of course this was the first real vacation we’d ever taken the kids on, and WOW! The look on their faces was worth every penny we spent, really. The kids loved the arcade, my husband and I loved getting up and having coffee out by the lake every morning. The convenience of the transportation to EVERYWHERE was excellent. Hoever, we wouldn’t stay here again because the next year we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside – and we liked it so much more!! And it was less expensive!"
