You’re never too old to don a pair of mouse ears and take a spin through the air on a flying elephant, as the millions who journey to Walt Disney World each year can attest. The harmonies of a barbershop quartet mingle sweetly with the smell of vanilla wafting from the candy shop – Main Street USA is transformed into a feast for the senses for the child in all of us. Walt Disney World has grown from the one Magic Kingdom park that opened its gates in 1971 to a vast – yet reassuringly intimate – metropolis that caters to the whims of every member of the family. You could spend weeks dining and dancing and golfing at Walt Disney World without ever even setting foot into one of its four world-class theme parks. With Cirque du Soleil shows to dazzle the eyes and ears and Wolfgang Puck restaurants to tempt the palate, a trip to today’s Disney World is like going to Las Vegas without ever losing a dime at the tables. Let the boys learn how to drive a real race car at the ESPN sports complex while you spend the day getting manis and pedis with your college girlfriends. At night, head on over to the many clubs of Pleasure Island and get into the kind of trouble Pinocchio never dreamed of.

Walt Disney’s goal was to immerse his guests in detailed three-dimensional storytelling environments, and the range of themed resorts at Walt Disney World bear witness to his triumph. Sip a daiquiri around the lush pools of the Polynesian or watch giraffes from your balcony at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Whatever fantasy you can dream up, Walt Disney World has a way to surround you in it.

Fun to Play...

"I've gone to Disney hundreds of times in my life. Of course, this is because I work there. There is always something to do. Even after three years of servitude to the mouse, I still enjoy going there."

Visit every year

Reviewed by detailsbybil on November 21, 2007

"My wife and I have been to Walt Disney World over 57 times. We visit at least one week each year. We've had access to a timeshare within 15 minutes of the parks but have also stayed on property many times. It's great to attend the seasonal events such as the Food & Wine festival, Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party. Great fun. Although we visited many times with kids we truly enjoy visiting as older folks. It's great escape and there are many fine dining options. I'd be happy to answer questions. Mickey and I are on a first name basis."

Even a stick in the mud will have fun...

Reviewed by jgreene777 on July 25, 2007

jgreene777's rating:

"I know what all has been said about The Magic Kingdom. I'd heard it all my life and I was a true skeptic. "It can't be THAT great." I'd say. "I bet you spend more time waiting in lines and avoiding being swindled by the 'carnies' than having actual fun." is what I would posit.I've always been the grumpy guy in the line, huffing and puffing about the wait and the pain in my back, then complaining about how short the ride was. I am a bona fide Stick In The Mud... all caps on that one.So when my wife started bugging me about taking our girls to Disney World for our vacation, I was not "in" to the idea. I wanted to go because I thought for sure my girls would love it, but I just KNEW that I would hate every minute of it. I dreaded the long lines, the hot sun, the wet seats and spending half the day in soaking wet clothes because we rode the log ride too early in the day. It turns out, of course, that I was more than just wrong. I have not had that much fun since I was a small child. Being Florida, the weather is wacky; rain at 8:30am and sun at 8:45, a nice cool breeze at 9am and rain again before 10am... then sun again... So after the weather forced me to throw out any notions of "plannning" the day and what rides we wanted to go on, I was able to just relax and go with the flow. I even rode a roller coaster; THE roller coaster evidently, Aerosmith's Rockin' Roller Coaster. Jsut so you know, I HATE roller coasters. I rode this one simply because my 8 year old daughter wanted to go on it and my wife was busy feeding the baby... or something... and couldn't ride it with her. The photo taken at the front of the ride spoke volumes about the amount of terror I felt. I didn't buy the photo because I didn't want the guys at work to EVER get a copy of it...Needless to say, I learned a lot about myself and how to simply enjoy time spent with my kids. I learned that it didn't matter if it rained on us in line to the Dumbo Ride because it just made it more fun... like a flying log ride or something. I rode with my 3 year old and kept her warm, so I got to be a hero, sort of like "Prince Charming," for my baby girl. The princesses are another thing... I have never seen my girls' faces light up the way they did during the Princess Coronation. It was... well, Magic. We got to have pictures taken with each of the princesses and eat at Cinderella's castle. We met the Fairy God Mother and got our own little magic wands.I think our trip to Disney World was a turning point in my life. I learned to loosen up a bit and enjoy my kids while they are kids. They got to see me in a whole new light and I enjoyed seeing the looks in their eyes as they discovered their "new" dad. My wife and I were planning our second trip to Disney World before we were done with the first trip. "

The Happiest Place on Earth

Reviewed by greg544 on June 18, 2007

greg544's rating:

"This is exactly what a theme park should be. An atmosphere that cannot be matched. A commitment to customer satisfaction. A little pricey. Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom is the best roller coaster I have ever ridden. The second best roller coaster would be the Rock-n-roller coaster at Disney Studios."

A LOT OF FUN!

Reviewed by rygirlsmum on January 08, 2007

rygirlsmum's rating:

"We just returned from a minitrip (3 days) and we managed to pack in Animal Kingdom, MGM, and then MK. We were busy and tired, but what a great family vacation. We just made sure that we focused on the kids; with it being so busy that week, we had to forgo some rides and attractions to make sure we did other things that the younger 2 (2 & 4) would like. We had to stand in lines, of course, but overall we worked our time out well.Animal Kingdom, though it didn’t seem so crowded, had lines too long for us to wait in. We still had a nice say walking around and catching someshows.MGM was great. We realy loved Playhouse Disney, and the Beauty and the Beast show. We got a lot of great photos of our kids with characters! The backlot tour was super and we were there for the Osbourne Lights – sooo worth dealing with crowds!Magic Kingdom was magical. We had to ride the tea cups and flying Dumbos, of course, but had to go to ToonTown to see the princesses in the tent. My 4YO was in Heaven! We ended our evening at the Castle for dinner and the SpectroMagic Parade on our way out of the park.We stayed at a Downtown Disney Hotel (Grosvenor), and have NO complaints – and they are in the process of a major renovation, so it will only get better. Beds we comfy, everything super clean, and they have character breakfasts in the restaurant 3 days a week. We went there our final morning and it was great to have Goofy and Pluto spend so much time with the kids. Being across the street from DTD was great. The perfect thing for our 1st evening. If you’re sending out postacrds, go to the scrapbook store and have them postmark them for you!We only went to one character meal within the park – Cinderella’s Royal Table – AWESOME! My 4YO loved seeing Cinderella, and my DH, a former chef, thought the food was excellent. We’re already planning our next trip for a “quieter” time so that we can do everything we missed and repeat the things we loved!"

"Disney truly is magic…The Wilderness Lodge is the only place we will ever stay. We also stayed at Pop Century, and while it was nice, we were just spoiled by how plush the Wilderness Lodge was. The service everywhere at Disney is legendary, and it truly stands up to all the hype. I highly recommend Disney’s Dining plan as well, they really feed you until you bust! My family is most definitely going back, we love Disney!"
