Trinity Episcopal Church was founded on June 10, 1896, six weeks prior to the incorporation of the city of Miami itself. It began as a mere wooden, one-room place of worship, the very first within Miamis original city limits, and was rebuilt into an imposing two-story stone structure in 1912. The magnificent Romanesque cathedral that stands today was completed in 1925. The Cathedral, with Mediterranean architecture inspired by the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Giles, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
