A great destination for both children and adults, the Miami Science Museum gives visitors the opportunity to both look far away into the stars and to explore what is inside their own bodies. Forget your distant memories of stuffy and boring museums. These exhibits are designed to thrill. Learn about cellular structure and DNA by trying to save a fictional astronaut using nano-robots. For the aspiring doctor or the merely curious, watch the video of a real arthroscopic knee surgery (graphic, to be sure, but fascinating nonetheless and recommended for all but the most squeamish). The Amazing Feats of Aging exhibit is a bright, carnival-themed installation that helps the inquiring mind understand the mysteries behind the aging process in both humans and animals. Particularly interesting is the exploration of life expectancy extension in lab animals and the implication of such research for humans. Be sure not to miss the Planetarium while you’re here. Although you can enjoy the highly sophisticated SPITZ star projector shows at almost any time, the lectures and free telescope viewings available on most Friday evenings are a real treat.
