An unusual location – in the heart of Miami’s industrial warehouse district – doesn’t prevent Big Fish from being a popular eatery, though it is difficult to find. The focus is on seafood, with a hint of Italian flavor. The restaurant is staffed entirely by Italians as well. Though the warehouse district might not be an obvious choice for dinner, the location, which overlooks the industrial Miami River, is a most picturesque spot. The all-seafood menu is quite expansive. Main courses such as walnut-crusted fillet of sea bass, grouper baked with artichokes, and whole yellowtail snapper fried and served with a lemon-ginger sauce are especially well-loved. Italian pastas and risotto are the only non-seafood items available; the pasta, however, is only served as an accompaniment to the seafood dishes that bring people to the Big Fish’s door. And what a crowd it can bring, particularly on Fridays. The industrial setting allows you to dress casually; besides, the emphasis here is not on the visual aspect of fine dining. The primary objective at Big Fish is for the customer to enjoy a great meal in a relaxing atmosphere, and leave with a happy, full stomach.

A great meal

road warrior's rating:

"The name says it all: This place is the big fish – the Big Kahuna – in pretty much all respects – the excellent seafood, the hip scene, and the perfectly mixed cocktails. I (and all of Miami, it seems) come by for the Friday night happy hour at the big bar that wraps around a gnarled Banyan tree. I take my cue from the restaurant’s name and always order one of the big fishes on the menu like the whole yellowtail snapper or the massive seafood platter with everything you can think of hauled in from the sea – lobster, shrimp, tuna, and scampi. Miami may have had its share of bad press a couple of decades ago but judging from the view here – freighters steaming by on the Miami River, airplanes roaring above, and cars and trucks rumbling over a nearby bridge – this is most definitely a city on the move."
