A pool as long as a limo, complimentary yoga, massages under the palm trees, a posh interior and gourmet fare to die for – the recently remodeled National Hotel has it all. Built in 1939, the cheery peach-sherbet-colored facade draws the eye up toward the blue Miami sky. Visual treats abound within, as well; the swanky lobby boasts original lighing fixtures that illuminate rich mahogany furniture and maroon accent fabrics. Production crews have taken notice of The National – Vogue and the MTV Music Awards know you can’t beat these grounds for a backdrop. Reminiscent of a time when Humphrey Bogart was the king of the silver screen, The National offers an undeniable elegance that translates into a sensual vibe. Original works of art grace the walls as down comforters, European linens, and feather pillows adorn the bed of each room. Harrison Ford and Gwen Stefani are among those who appreciate The National’s sophistication. Tamara, the hotel’s well-known eatery, is named for a 1929 painting by Tamara de Lempicka called Young Girl With Gloves. A ceiling mosaic inspired by the artwork brings the restaurant’s decor to life, and executive chef Frederic Delaire takes over from there. With a romantic and sumptuous flair, dishes like wild mushroom strudel, black grouper and tagliolini pasta, and raspberry bavarios make food critics take notice.
