If you’ve ever wondered just what the height of South Beach cool would be, venture out to Nemo’s for the answer. The desirable SoFi location attracts everyone from politicians to models to tourists. People-watching is a must, and if celebrities are indeed present, you may get to see the maitre d’ artfully dispense with overeager paparazzi. Don’t be surprised to find yourself seated next to Ricky Martin or Jennifer Lopez. At Nemo, the exceptional ambiance is what brings the stars out, heightened by the bright, modern colors, cozy tables, and hammered copper bar. There’s a buzz of energy in this restaurant that’s almost palpable. Step right in, flash your klieg light smile, and ask for a table in the tree-lined outdoor courtyard.

Far from being a place that is wholly concerned with glitz and glamour, though, Nemo is a restaurant that takes its food very seriously. Chef Mike Sabin meticulously crafts seasonal menus designed to take full advantage of the best ingredients available at the time. (Sabin is so serious about having the best ingredients that fish are flown in from as far away as Vietnam.) The result? Fresh and sophisticated world cuisine with disparate influences that tickle your tastebuds with exotic, sweet, and slightly spicy flavors. This leads to such eclectic combinations as duck confit and Indian spiced cauliflower puree with carrot raisin chutney. Wok-charred salmon is a delight, as are the enormous shrimp from the raw bar. Nemo’s portion sizes won’t overwhelm you, so you should have plenty of room for one of the exceptional desserts designed by pastry chef Hedy Goldsmith. Order anything with chocolate in it.

Other aspects of the Nemo experience worthy of mention are the wide wine list and the bustling singles scene. The wine list is not only a connoisseur’s delight, it is reasonably priced with quality bottles that don’t break the bank (under $50) as well as exclusive California labels. Try an Alsatian white to get the most for your money. As for the singles scene, it’s been ranked among the best in Miami. The flattering light inside Nemo allows you to put your best face forward, so to speak. Dress to impress, and keep an eye on your fellow patrons. You never know when you’ll see someone whose face is on the cover of a magazine.

folashade's rating:

"This is a great restaurant. The food is superb. If they have the wild salmon it is quite good as is the seabass. The crab-cakes are also good with little filler. If you decide to have a mojito you will get a huge glass that is at least 16ozs of potent bliss. If you can sit outside that is magical to be able to sit under the trees that are softly lit with lights."
