How can any other theme park in the world compete with The Magic Kingdom? This is Disney’s flagship park, a place that makes believe that glass slippers and magical kisses and talking animals exist. Much of the charm for families lies in the Fantasyland rides, based on Disney movies, such as the trip to Neverland on the Peter Pan ride, or the spinning teacups from the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. There are special activities for kids, including interactive story time with Belle from Beauty and the Beast, photo ops with wandering Dinsey characters, or the chance to be selected by Merlin to pull Excaliber from the stone. Returning adults insist on lining up for Space Mountain, the classic rollercoaster in Tomorrowland that zips through stars and darkness so that you can’t see the drops. You’ll appreciate the sheer magnitude of the undertaking – the Magic Kingdom sprawls over 107 acres, yet there is a painstaking attention to detail. There is a turn of the century Main Street USA, a street where there are storefronts with gas lamps, horse drawn carriage rides and even a working barber shop. There is a steam-powered riverboat that cruises visitors by Tom Sawyer Island on the Rivers of America. The Pirates of the Caribbean ride has such cool and campy animatronic characters that Johnny Depp starred in a movie inspired by – and named after – the ride. Cinderella’s castle towers over it all, and at night, Tinkerbell sets off fireworks that explode over the castle. Even if you’re dying for a beer by the end of the day (there is no alcohol in the park), it would be hard to leave the Magic Kingdom without concluding that Walt Disney was an imaginative genius – and an incredible capitalist.

Magical place on Earth

"As far as amusement parks go, this can’t be beat. Endless options for rides and activities. Disney characters are out in full force and ready for photo ops. Expect long lines, that’s just the way it is, and don’t expect to see it all in one day!"

what fun!

"Just returned from a mini-trip with my family. I could have spend an entire week just at Magic Kingdom! And I know my 4YO could have, too. This was a princess-based trek, so we made sure that we saw Snow White, Belle, and Cinderella at Toon Town. I cried seeing my little girl so happy! No matter the wait in the lines, it’s worth it!"
