When Universal decided to compete head-to-head with Disney in the theme park wars, Orlando visitors won in a big way. Universal’s Islands of Adventure is an instant classic with movie-themed rides, special effects adventures and a little Dr. Seuss for younger kids. Five distinct islands burst forth with an embarrassment of riches in shows and attractions. As soon as you step foot in the park, you’ll get a sense of the alchemy that makes this park so distinct. Universal’s love of thrills and irreverent humor, heavily influenced by Disney’s maniacal attention to theme and detail, have spawned this überpark. Incredible hulking roller coasters coexist with whimsical Dr. Seuss dark rides in a wonderland that Walt Disney would be proud to call his own.

Once inside, bear left and swing your way to the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man on Marvel Super Hero Island. This attraction – whose groundbreaking technology won raves in Wired magazine – is routinely listed as the single-best ride in the world. Queue up in the offices of the Daily Bugle before hitting the city streets (and swinging high above them) to face a rogue’s gallery of the web-slinger’s greatest foes. This combination roller coaster/motion simulator/3D movie/dark ride has no equal and by itself would justify the price of admission. And that’s only one attraction, on one island. Stay at one of the luxurious on-site hotels (the Hard Rock is widely recommended) and bypass the regular line on Spidey and the rest of the hottest attractions just by flashing your room key.

lilvik4life's rating:

"My first experience going to this park was amazing! My favorite ride, hands down, would have to be Doctor Doom. It was fun because it shoots you up in the sky, I think about 150ft or so, and you are only attached to a rod. My other favorite was the Hulk. I loved all the turns and when you go down into the water. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves roller coasters and having lots of fun!"
