Commanders Palace
A touch of Nawlins in Vegas
This famed New Orleans restaurant owned by the Brennan family, who seems to own at least half of the restaurants in New Orleans, is now in Vegas. It’s located within the Desert Passage at the Aladdin Hotel. Instead of losing our quarters at the slot machine, we decided to head to Commander’s Palace, where we could have $0.25 martinis or screwdrivers with our lunch. The restaurant is bright and friendly, with the decor done in crisp green and white. The staff is full of good, old-fashioned Southern hospitality. For starters, I had the tasso shrimp, which is fried and covered in a spicy sauce. My friend started with the gumbo, which was thick and flavorful. We both ordered the Cobb salad, hers with jumbo lump crabmeat and mine with onion-crusted chicken. Both salads were fresh, and the signature dressing was a great complement. We then finished it off with the very rich molten chocolate beignets
