A trip to New York isn’t complete until you’ve visited the magnificent Museum of Modern Art, which boasts the world’s largest collection of modern painting and sculpture. The museum itself is a work of art. In a nod to the museum’s history, Taniguchi preserved the original 1953 design of the beloved Sculpture Garden, and also expanded the garden’s southern terrace into a lovely outdoor patio. Of course, in one visit you can only touch the tip of the iceberg; once you’ve explored the Painting and Sculpture collections, you’ll want to return to view the museum’s five other curatorial departments: Architecture and Design, Drawings, Photography, Prints and Illustrated Books, and Film and Media. If you’re looking for gifts to take back home, stop by the MoMA gift shop, which is bursting with all manner of gizmos, gadgets, posters, and postcards.
