"On my first trip to Paris, I found myself at Notre Dame every day. In the morning, to watch the crowd gather, and around 5 p.m. to hear the bells ring. This is the centre of France, literally. The mile 0 marker in the square in front of the cathedral is where all measurements in the country begin. Appreciate its many approaches…walk around the entire building…watch the tourists, locals and gypsies in the square…explore the aisles of the cathedral itself (but be discreet – don’t be one of the hordes of tourists that have to be ‘shushed’ because they can’t remember they are in a house of worship)...climb the towers (it’s worth the wait in line)...and visit the ancient ruins under the square. The tower and the archeological dig under the square are both on the Museum Pass.
