Saint-Chapelle is a Gothic masterpiece, built in the 13th century. The king’s chapel upstairs is stunningly beautiful, filled with exquisite stained-glass windows depicting more than 1,000 biblical figures.

Stained glass windows!

"I had went to the Sainte-Chapelle but I didn’t know about it before hand. Honestly I only went because it was next to Notre Dame and it was covered in my Paris pass that I bought for all of Paris’ other attractions. Don’t expect to see lots of different things, the thing that people come here to see is the main hall where it has heaps of stained glass windows. It looks amazing when the sun strikes some of the pannels."

Candy for the eyes!

Reviewed by Loricat on December 19, 2006

Loricat's rating:

"It’s easy to miss this little church. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, surrounded as it is by other buildings (the Conciergerie). It’s so near to Notre Dame, some may overlook it. But it is not to be missed. As you come out of the tight stone staircase, it is like stepping into a jewel. I sat for an hour, just watching the universal wonder on people’s faces as they looked up and saw the walls of brilliant glass. "

Sainte-Chapelle - Countless writers have called this tiny chapel a jewel box. Yet that hardly suffices. Nor will it do to call it "a light show." Go when the sun is shining and you'll need no one else's words to describe the remarkable effects of natural light on Sainte-Chapelle.
