Important Hotel Information:

The Georgian Terrace hotel was written into the history of the Old South when Gone With the Wind premiered here back in 1939. It soon earned a berth on the National Register of Historic Places – well-deserved praise for a soaring testament to the kind of beauty that once made Dixie the playground of writers like Faulkner and Twain. Today the Georgian Terrace remains known as “The Grand Dame” of Atlanta’s storied Peachtree Street. The Georgian Terrace’s midtown location offers easy access to Piedmont Park, the Gone with the Wind Museum, and the Fox Theater, home of the Atlanta Ballet and Atlanta Opera. Timeless dignity like this tends to draw visitors of equal stature. Luminaries including Calvin Coolidge, Charles Lindbergh and the great Rudolph Valentino all bedded down at the Terrace. Today the hotel supplements such historical charms with newer touches like glass chandeliers in the lobby alongside brilliant picture windows. Of course, the Savoy Bar and Grille wasn’t around in the old days either – and what a shame. Visitors and reviewers rave about the coriander-crusted tuna with Israeli couscous. And the rooms have gotten an update as well, featuring sleek new designs in mint green lavender and gently curving hardwoods. One literary-minded guest said it best: The Old South has never looked so new.

retirees' rating:

"We planned a trip to Atlanta for our anniversary last year, and friends of ours recommended the Georgian Terrace. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places, and we thought the lobby and atrium were just beautiful. The rooms weren’t quite as charming, and they were more modern, but they were certainly nice. We appreciated having a kitchen; it was nice to be able to stow away some milk, fruit and Cheerios for snacking on at night. The location was great, too – there was a Marta station about a block away, and we really enjoyed not having to drive anywhere in an unfamiliar city."
