This modest turn-of-the-century home is an architectural find in itself, but most notable because it houses the apartment where Margaret Mitchell penned most of the worlds most popular novel, “Gone with the Wind.” Having survived arson and many seasons of decay, the house has been completely restored. Guided tours feature a wealth of historical and anecdotal information on Mitchell, the house and Atlanta in general. A museum shop is also on site. Admission is USD12 for adults, USD9 for students and seniors, USD5 for children 6-17.

"I love your excellent photo of the Margaret Mitchell House, just wish you had more! I'm a great grandma now but back in the ice age, I use to walk to and from school past this same house, as a child. The modern restored home/museum kind of busted my bubble as I remember it as an abandoned house, with dirty windows, which through you could see stored furniture piled on top of itself and torn lace curtains. There was no grandure as you see it today. The yard was over grown and open to kids like us who use to explore the over grown grounds and peek through the windows. It sat the corner at the time, and in front, was much closer to Peachtree Rd. Seeing all this change and large buildings around it is disappointing but to see the restoration is refreshing. I just wish they hadn't done so much. It was never this grand. No iron fence..no fence at all. She was right when she called it "The Dump" Just wanted to tell you I enjoyed your photo's. BTW, we are neighbors..I now live in Tallahassee. Once a Ga Peach too."
