"So there I was after my evening workout starving to death, and I thought I’ll try Taurus, and I’m glad I did. Perched atop the thrid floor of a retail development as far south as South Buckhead will go, the restaurant was an interesting open space center around a raised platform of lovely banquettes. As the name would suggest, the menu is heavy on meats and the decor is appropriately red. At first I was concerned when our server asked, “Is this your first time here?” That question usually leads to some kitchy gimicky scarey moment when the server explains that at thier restaurant your dinner is thrown at you from the kitchen without warning so you must always be on your feet ready to catch you dinner and dodge other guests dinners. After a lengthy explanation of the chef’s goals for his cuisine my mind was at ease.
This restaurant is all about slow cooking, bone-in, and skin-on imparting more flavor to the food, as our server explained. Lamb braised for hours, steaks raosted over an oak fire, everything that is delicious about meats. I had the nightly special, of which one is published the other is not. It was a delicious pork roast cut from the belly, but cooked for so long as to remove most of the fat so what was left was this suculent juicy delicious peice of pork roast. I emmensly enjoyed it.
I accompanied this with an arugula salad. My dinner companion (my mother in from South Africa) had the Halibut steak and a goat cheese and field green salad, both of which were excellent.
We had the pleasure of dinning on the one year anniversary of thier opening and our server treated us to a delicious desert of vanilla ice sandwiched between two layers of sponge cake topped with macerated fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and a pistacio-merengue cookie, all nestled on a bed of strawberry-rhubard jam made in house by the pastry chef.
Great service, great food, great atmosphere, what more do you need."
