Adenau, Germany Summary
Adenau photo

There are regular buses (approximately one an hour) from Altenahr to ADENAU, and the thirty-minute journey takes you through the upper reaches of the Ahr valley, via a succession of tiny villages, deep into the High Eifel. Adenau is a pretty little tourist town straggling along the river valley, notable mainly for the fifteenth- and sixteenth-century half-timbered houses which surround its Markt. These are actually the genuine article, as the occasional sagging roof or slightly buckled facade shows, but they have been prettified for the tourists and now house the usual range of cafés, bars and shops. There’s also a venerable Pfarrkirche here that dates from the eleventh century, but which was altered in the thirteenth century.
