Once known as the Aston Pacific Monarch, the ResortQuest Pacific Monarch is a condominium hotel popular with families and travelers on a budget. The lobby is bordered with an attractive stone wall and plenty of greenery; palm-frond fans and latticed sofas add visual interest. The rooms are cheerful and beachy, with lots of blonde wood, glass and tropical plants and flowers. The ResortQuest Pacific Monarch has the only rooftop pool in all of Waikiki, with stunning views. It’s best to be there at sunset to try to catch the “green flash” – the odd natural phenomenon that occurs when the sun sinks just beneath the horizon. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, but both the studios and one-bedrooms feature kitchenettes. Waikiki Beach is just a couple of blocks away, and the International Marketplace and Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center are nearby.
