Best Hawaiian Luau

Reviewed by NOLAgirl on June 04, 2007

NOLAgirl's rating:

"We went here in October, 2005 on a recommendation and were very pleased. The grounds were gorgeous and natural, unlike most luaus that are hosted by the hotels. Drinks flow plentifully. Get there a little early to walk and take pictures on the beach and see a few local artist/merchants. Then, you will have an educational experience as you watch them take the pig out of the pit it's been burried and cooking in. The food is great and there's tons. Buffet-style allows you to try just a little bit of some of the stranger things you might not otherwise order. I believe the cost was around $75 or $80 per person, but for all you can eat and drink and a full night on great entertainment, it was definitely one of my favorite evenings!"

Great luau

"Best Hawaiian Luau I’ve been to. While there may be better ones out there, I was fully satisfied with what this one had to offer. Open bar keeps tropical drinks flowing (so designate a DD). Guests have choice of traditional seating (think sitting on pillows on the ground with low tables) or regular tables with chairs. We chose the pillows without regrets, but the tables would be best for those who may have trouble getting up. Before the unveiling of the underground oven and luau pig, guests could stroll the grounds, overlooking the ocean, and visit stations set up by local craftspeople to learn how to make leis, weave baskets from palms, etc. The unveiling of the pig was followed by a buffet of traditional Hawaiian foods and the luau performance. Traditional dances and dress made for an enjoyable evening. Catching the sunset over the ocean was an added bonus. Would highly recommend. And if perchance you won the coin toss and are not the DD, be careful of the low lava rock walls. Walking into them leaves a mark."
