Location. Set on 23 acres on Pu’u Poa Ridge and terraced along the bluff facing Hanalei Bay is the Princeville Resort in Princeville, Hawaii. Complimentary shuttle service is provided to Princeville Ranch, where waterfall hikes, zip lines, horseback riding and kayak tours are available.
Hotel Features. Large skylights, graceful gilded columns, tapestries, sofas upholstered in salmon hued fabric, a central chandelier and an olive area rug ornament the airy and sophisticated lobby. Double vaulted ceilings and hand painted murals embellish La Cascata, which features an expansive wine list. Restaurant offerings include Brodetto di Pesce and Black Pepper Crusted Muscovy Duck Breast on its Mediterranean influenced menu. Café Hanalei serves Pacific Rim cuisine from an expanded terrace, with seafood buffets on Friday evenings. Princeville Health Club & Spa boasts a sauna, steam room and jetted tubs, and pampering services including Hot Stone Massage and the Hanalei Tropical Body Treatment. Fitness classes, yoga and Aquacise activities are also available. This ocean view resort includes two championship golf courses, a poolside beach activity center with water sports rentals and helicopter excursions. The outdoor pool, surrounded by garden greenery, includes a swim up bar and a separate children’s pool.

Guestrooms. The 252 guestrooms contain blond wood furnishings, oil prints, premium bedding with eight pillows, and décor in tones of pale cream and gold. Tropical fragrances emerge from a full size bottle of Maile mist available in every room. Some rooms feature Juliet balconies with wrought iron railings that frame garden, Hanalei Mountain or Pacific Ocean views. Green marble bathrooms host dual sink granite vanities, showers and Roman style tubs, lighted makeup mirrors, gold plated fixtures, oversized Aveda toiletries and bathrobes. Panoramic bathroom windows are kept private with electric shades.

Expert Tip. Be sure to make your reservations in advance for the popular beachside luau, hosted Monday through Thursday evenings, complete with authentic Hawaiian cuisine and hula dancing.

Luxury

inversed's rating:

"Expensive without a doubt, but the service, luxury and beauty will not be forgotten, Definitely worth the splurge. If you can’t afford to stay here, having dinner (or just drinks and apps) on a lanai from the lobby bar overlooking the beach and moutains of Hanalei Bay at sunset is to die for. Tres romantique."

Over the top in Kauai

Reviewed by JustonParker on October 25, 2006

JustonParker's rating:

"This is the place all the stars stay in Kauai. It’s the high end and they mean it. The views are phenominal and the rooms are all ocen view. There is an “opaque” window in the bathroom shower that allows you to make it clear or opaque at the flip of a switch. What a romantic bath for two overlooking the sunset behind the Na Pali. We love the place and…it’s not a place for a family. Expensive and a place for couples not the kids."

Pricey...and worth every penny!

Reviewed by Gini on July 30, 2006

Gini's rating:

"The first thing that strikes you when you get to the Princeville is that it’s built upside down! The lobby and main entry are on the top floor! That’s because the whole hotel is built into the side of a cliff and the best rooms are down on the beach on the first floor. We were lucky enough to have one of those first floor rooms and could walk out onto the Princeville’s pristine white sand beach right off our lanai. There are huge loungers and hammocks everywhere and the waiters will keep you plied with fruity tropical drinks at your whim. This hotel also sports a gorgeous infinity edge pool right by the ocean. Gorgeous! Our room was huge and sparkling clean. The best part was a gigantic marble and glass shower with a surprise twist: with the flip of a switch the wall between the shower and the bedroom goes from opaque gray to clear glass, allowing a phenomenal view of the beach. How cool is that?"
