Property Owner Cancelled our reservation on us to get higher rate
We booked two rooms for a Saturday night stay coming up in a few months with this property to celebrate our mother’s 60th birthday. The receptionist took our reservation for the rooms, credit card information and we received a confirmation email thanking us for the deposit and listing out the arrival/departure dates, room rates, etc.
Unfortunately, a day later the owner called and told us that they would not be able to “honor the contract”, that the rate is $45-75 higher and we need to stay for a minimum of two nights.
The owner’s defense is that “they are a small business” and “the front desk worker screwed up”. A contract is a contract, the size of the business is irrelevant, and if an employee accepts a contract on behalf of the business it is binding.
