Important Hotel Information:

Gorgeous both inside and out, the Hotel Burnham is conducting a love affair with the city of Chicago. Perfect for honeymoons and anniversaries, the hotel (housed in the historic Reliance Building) fuses Old World elegance with modern convenience. The two-story lobby foreshadows the lavish décor found in guest rooms; its regal mahogany columns, dark leather and mohair chairs, and expansive fireplace set the tone for the perfect romantic retreat. The mood of the guest rooms and suites is pure extravagance. Blue velvet headboards, sheer gold canopies, plush sateen bedspreads and dark wood furnishings set the backdrop for a dreamy couples’ hideaway. A pet-friendly establishment, the Hotel Burnham provides dog walking and plush pet beds. Let the staff pamper your pooch while you people-watch through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Atwood Café. Fuel up on classic comfort food, and then explore the Millennium Park, right across the street.

Great old building

Reviewed by retirees on April 30, 2006

retirees' rating:

"We really like to stay in hotels that are historically or architecturally significant. The Hotel Burnham hasn’t been in Chicago for very long, but the building it’s housed in has, and that’s part of what attracted us. The Reliance Building is on the National Register of Historic Places, and many of its original architectural details have been restored or reconstructed. We liked the terrazzo floors and the elevator gills, and the real key you’re given to open your room door (as opposed to the electronic cards most hotels have now) was neat. The décor in our room was a little too modern for us, but it was very nice. I loved the fact that Marshall Field’s is across the street – it was nice to be able to make one last visit before it’s turned into a Macy’s (don’t get me started)."
