The town of Pullman was annexed by Chicago in 1889, but its residents retain their pride in what was once declared the “world’s most perfect town.” Garden clubs, housing committees, and civic organizations hold court, and the Historic Pullman Foundation is in charge of the remarkable restoration of this charming historical landmark with modern sensibilities. Pullman’s tree-lined streets are a welcome escape from the thoroughly contemporary commotion of Chicago. The community regularly welcomes visitors for events and tours, and its most popular attraction is its annual house tour, which takes visitors on a journey through the industrial town’s most beautiful architectural treasures. Other guided excursions include a walking tour on the first Sunday of every month from May to October, as well as tours of the Hotel Florence, a veranda-bounded Victorian structure, and the Pullman Factory grounds. The Historic Pullman Visitor Center will acquaint you with all the facts you need to enjoy this beautiful district on a deeper level and also boasts a variety of events monthly.
