Atmosphere makes the meal at La Creperie. The crepes are tasty, yes, but part of the fun of dining here is the drama. It’s hard to sweep through the front door and not feel as though you’re making a grand entrance in some fabulous Francois Truffaut film. Prime seating is located in the front, where not much has changed since the cafe first opened in 1972: dark wood everything (bar included), flirty tea lights and soft music. The back patio is almost as moody, cramped and character-driven. This is an excellent choice for a second or third date. The best of the savory crepes include the chicken and mushroom, curry chicken, and coq au vin, which are folded, not rolled. Don’t resist ordering a warm, gooey Nutella crepe for dessert. And what would a French bistro be if it didn’t offer steak frites, pate or escargot? Wink, wink.
