Oh really!

" years ago, the Hapsburg Lorena princes decided to open a restaurant in Florence: La Giostra. The news of a noble family handling with dishes and napkins caused a sensation, but not for everyone. The family friends who were accustomed to gathering around the table of the prince at the castle of Barberino Val d'Elsa in Chiantishire, had often suggested the idea. The many restaurants that were supplied with olive oil, wine and other products of the estate had started fearing what would come ever since the prince began asking them (and obtaining) some recipes of their chefs. Great food, amazing story

"I must admit, I'm not much of a foodie. I love food--don't get me wrong. But what I love more is a great experience, and a great story to take home. This restaurant nestled in a tiny nook of Florence, delivers both. This particular restaurant not only had some of the best Italian food I've ever tried, but also a staff that consisted of Hapsburg Lorena princes. Yes, royalty. Fortunately for us, everyone was incredibly nice, no royal tempers at all.As part of the "royal" experience, each group of is treated to a huge antipasti platter and a complimentary glass of champagne for all.I am thankful for experiencing this restaurant as I went on a Contiki trip this past summer, taking me on a whirlwind two-week tour of Europe. [www.contiki.com] I highly recommend it to any young person who's going to Europe for the first time. "

Excellent Meal if Willing to Spend

Reviewed by laur8503 on December 21, 2006

laur8503's rating:

"While this isnt the cheapest restaurant you can find in Florence, the food here is excellent and you should definitely experience it. Walking in to La Giostra you are surrounded with twinkling lights and a more intimate atmosphere. You are provided with complimentary champagne as well as an appetizer platter from the chef who explains what each sample is. The food is delicious but runs for about 14 euros for a primi."
