El Dorado is off I-35 northeast of Wichita. The Butler County Oil Museum commemorates the fact that an oil discovery was made near El Dorado in 1915, starting a boom of historic importance to the settlement. Coutts Memorial Museum of Art includes works by Renoir, Thomas Hart Benton, Frederic Remington and others. Local artworks are housed in the Gallery of the Hills Atrium. Of historic interest is the Missouri Pacific Railroad Depot. At El Dorado State Park there are extensive trails for cycling and walking. Buses connect El Dorado with Wichita and Topeka.
