Koi

Koi

quote:

A classic Los Angeles sushi restaurant and bar, Koi is a beautifully designed, celeb-popular place to enjoy both a group outing (try ordering five to ten small dishes and sharing) or intimate romantic date (impress your loved one with your knowledge of sake – drunk cold in bamboo glasses, but of course). Even so-called “simple” dishes, such as tuna roll, crispy rice, salmon or black cod with miso, enjoy an elevated, elegant presentation that’s worth savoring, and the Kobe beef is tender and fresh, though don’t expect strident authenticity or a huge Japanese crowd. Prepare to wait even if you booked your meal a year ago; mentally adding a half hour to the time you asked for will more accurately reflect your seating time. Don’t be annoyed by this; instead, take advantage of the opportunity to scout the place out, observe the sushi chefs in action, have a drink by the fireplace or peek into the four different dining rooms, each sporting separate themes and décor. Even if you don’t see a celebrity, you may see paparazzi lurking. A very un-Japanese, yet extremely delectable, molten chocolate cake should conclude your meal, regardless of what came before it.
