Visiting New Orleans
"If your going to visit New Orleans, visit it for the history and the rebuilding. Not for Mardi Gras. New Orleans has become a special place now that it has started to rebuild itself. A good place to visit is Musicians Village where they are currently rebuilding the worst affected homes from hurricane Katrina. It is located in the ninth district.

New Orleans: bouncing back
"New Orleans is really bouncing back since the hurricane. Although there are still alot of messed up buildings, most businesses are back open and very tourist friendly. Besides Bourbonn Street, don't forget to visit the zoo, the wonderful aquarium, and to eat plenty of authentic cajun food.

"Great city, also great hope for their return. Once you leave Burbon St. and go to the outer areas, you see lives were forever changed. It can never be rebuilt to the level it was. Having said that, bar none the best restaurants on the planet.

My Hometown!
"New Orleans is a great place to enjoy a whole wide culture from other states. Cajun food, jazz music, mardi gras and the rebuilding of Katrina has brought many travelers.

I love NOLA
"New Orleans, even post-Katrina, is arguably the greatest city in America an I would venture to say top 20 in the world. It is by far the most European city in the country and has so much to offer, it is unbeatable.

New Orleans

Good for the Soul
"As a local, I may be biased, but New Orleans is definitely the greatest city in the world! ;) I fell in love with this city when I moved away from my home in Chicago, which is probably the second best city in the world in 1996. I think "ILoveVacation" gives fantastic weekend recommendations (except I think he/she meant Jackson Square after breakfast at Cafe du Monde - it's right across the street and I don't know of a Franklin Square). Anyway, there's SO much to see/do here that I can't narrow down my review enough. I'm trying to give Gusto reviews for as many places as possible, so please link to those or email me. The French Quarter is great, but don't feel limited by it if it's not your scene. New Orelans can be a party, but it can also be an elegant stroll through Audubon Park, a fun streetcar or paddlewheel ride to the zoo for children of all ages, a european-type experience for a lot less money, a romantic weekend with wine and smooth jazz, a history-buff's delight, a nature lover's U.S. safari, a community service addict's jackpot, or SO much more!

"It was tough to pick a New Orlean's hotel since there are so many. The Hotel Montelone was wonderful. Great location. Great service and beautiful. My don't-miss-picks for things to do in a short stay are a Hurricane Katrina tour, the Laura Plantation, reading the paper in Jackson Square after breakfast at Cafe du Monde and brunch at Brennan's. New Orleans is ready for visitors. Go.

New Orleans

New Orleans

The wildest city in America
"Yes, New Orleans has yet to finish recovering from Katrina. But enough of the city’s signature restaurants, hotels, and jazz clubs have reopened that its allure is back in full bloom. In time, the lingering ravages of the hurricane will become part of its picturesque charm, but right now… Well, right now they mean fantastic price breaks can be had! You can still get a po-boy, a beignet, a Hurricane (the tasty drink version,) a killer dose of jazz, blues, or dixieland. You can still see the remnants of the antebellum south in preserved plantation houses, or meet a voo-doo priestess, or visit the nation’s World War II museum. And right now, it will cost you a little less. Take advantage of the price breaks while New Orleans still feels the need to offer incentives to lure tourists back. They’ll be gone sooner than you think.
