A true connoisseur of oysters usually stays far away from the tourist traps, but don’t be deterred by the long line snaking out of Acme Oyster House. For once, the fanny packs and extra-white sneakers will not lead you astray. The bivavles at Acme Oyster House are fresh and plump. Accessorize them with nothing more than fresh-squeezed lemon juice and you’ll have a true delicacy. Acme Oyster House is known for its sweet deals, and at just under a dollar bill, these babies are a steal. Skip the wait by perching your pretty little self up at the bar and enjoy a locally brewed Abita beer while you scoff at all the folks in line. If you must have a table, the line moves briskly. Snag a seat by a shucker, and with a little sweet talkin’, you’re liable to score a few freebies.

Biggest oysters in the world

"I've never seen oysters as big as these anywhere! Fresh and the best taste ever. Fun to watch them being shucked. Don't wear your good shoes here, or clothes, you want to get down and dirty and be able to enjoy your food. A must if you are in NOLA for an inexpensive, unfancy good feed!!!"

"The Acme Oyster House has excellent food. I would never order anything other than, of course, oysters. However, it is a bit touristy, crowded, and loud. If that is what you are looking for, Acme Oyster House is the place to be!"

Your my boo.

Reviewed by ajones on June 26, 2006

ajones' rating:

"Acme has some of the best oysters that I have had in the U.S.. I dressed mine only with lemon juice. Fresh and sweet tasting. So delish. I would recommend going at non-peak hours when the line is not as long. The atmos was filled with tons of tourist and the noise added to the scene. I chatted it up with a guy frying the oysters in back. He told me that raw was really the way to go. I had to agree. Mine were perfect. Nate had a catfish Po-boy that was alright, but my Boo Fries were the bomb. French fries covered in au jus, debris and melted cheese. They became my boo. I think our waitress was having a bad day. She was not a happy camper. Maybe it was because her pants were so tight. Must have been uncomfortable."
