"Laura Plantation is one of the few remaining Creole Plantations left existing and it was nearly lost a couple years ago in a fire. It has just finished restorations from the fire and the house is looking better than it did before. There are still a couple rooms left to restore that were completely lost, but the tour does not suffer. This is by far the best plantation tour I have ever been on and you won't be sorry to come to Laura. The house is a typical Creole style - one floor raised with a basement beneath. There are also many artifacts still remaining from the owners of the plantation which isn't always the case with plantation homes. They also allow you to photograph inside the home which is a rarity. The grounds have many buildings remaining, some restored, some not and the tour will continue to the slave quarters and finish there which is rare for most homes. The visit isn't complete without a stop in the gift shop to purchase the last owners memoirs of the house - you will not be dissapointed in the story that Laura has to tell!"
