review Jack's Grill

Steak Joint with Character.

My husband lucked into this restaurant during a road trip between Vancouver and LA. Too tired to keep driving, he stopped in Redding and asked the hotel clerk where he could get a good steak. JACK’S GRILL was the immediate answer! A favorite with the locals and always packed, Jack’s is a casual restaurant/bar with a simple menu. The steaks are fantastic. When I finally got to eat at Jack’s last summer, we sat at the bar beside a man with a cowboy hat, plaid shirt, jeans and cowboy boots. We got talking and it turned out that he was a cattle rancher from Northern California. He knew all of the steak restaurants in the area and he said by far that Jack’s was his favorite. Entrees are served with salad and mashed, baked or fried potatoes. Since we were heading south, he suggested we stop in Los Banos (just off the I-5) to eat at the Wool Growers Restaurant. Only flaw with Jack’s is that it is SO popular that you are usually in for a long wait. We showed up around 8:30PM on a Thursday night and we didn’t get seated until 9:30PM. It was worth the wait, though! Bartender was friendly.
