Norebang!

Norebang!

Norebang is Korean for "Singing Room." It's where you go to sing Karaoke. Karaoke is incredibly popular in Korea. You can rent small rooms at the Norebangs by the hour, and go there with your friends. There are thousands of Korean and English (and some Spanish and German and probably other languages, too!) songs to choose from. You put the number into the remote, and your song comes up on a large tv in the room. There is usually a cheesy scenic video to watch as you sing, that has nothing to do with the song. I've seen cheesy European vacation videos from the '80s, the Greek countryside, skiing videos, and people dancing. There are usually two microphones to sing into. It usually doesn't matter if you're a good singer or not, because it's pretty loud, and usually you're drunk! I've noticed that most Koreans are great singers, though! It's amazing! The rooms are sometimes decorated, like in the picture above, where there is a nice Neon Swiss theme! But most of them are just plain rooms with a table and a sofa. You can bring in your own beer and drinks, or usually order them from the Norebang. They're usually open quite late at night, so a lot of people go after having been out with their friends at bars. There are also Norebangs with "hostesses," which are women who sing with businessmen, and make them feel welcome.

Norebangs are such a fun and cheap way to have fun with your friends in Korea!
