Kiruna

Cooooooooold!

I went to Kiruna in December specifically to see the Northern Lights, and was really disappointed when it was overcast the whole time! But it was my first time experiencing the famous 24-hour nights since Kiruna is above the Polar Circle. It was different than I thought- I was expecting pitch black all day, but it actually did get lighter for a few hours, although the sun didn’t come over the horizon. It just seemed really overcast. All the white snow makes it seem a lot brighter than it is, I think. It was about a million degrees below zero, so be sure to bring proper clothing! There is a lot to do in the area, including dogsledding, cross-country skiing, going to the ice hotel (so cool!), eating reindeer, looking at old churches, and more (probably, although that’s all I did!). This was a perfect 3-day trip! It was so nice to see a different part of Sweden than most people visit!
