Stuart Collection

Love it!

I love the art collection at UCSD! I took a special seminar about it my freshman year. The Sun God is the most famous piece. It’s a huge paper machélooking bird that looks like it was made by a child. It’s actually by Nikki de Saint Phalle, and there’s a replica of it in Paris! More of his work can be seen at Balboa Park in San Diego. There are also 3 fiberglass trees near the library the one right in front is silent, the other two in a eucalyptus grove next to the library sing and talk at random times. There’s a mosaic snake path going up to the library on one side, representing the garden of Eden, if I’m not mistaken! There are also Neon lights at the top of an engineering building that spell out the vices and virtues, and one piece made of rocks that students call “Stonehenge.” There’s a big blue fence high up in another Eucalyptus Grove. & there are a bunch more, although the collection isn’t that big. If you are really interested, I think there are tours available explaining more. It’s fun to just walk around the campus and see all the pieces!
