Stortorget

The Big Square

Stortorget means "The Big Square" in Swedish. It's a big open space in town, near the train station. There is parking here, although it is quite limited and usually hard/impossible to find a space. This is the beginning of gågatan, the pedestrian shopping street in Malmö. There are lots of restaurants and shops nearby, as well as hotels. There are nice trees in the park, a statue of Karl X, the old City Hall (which is a beautiful building!), and lots of people walking around. There are some other art pieces around, like a fountain and a cute marching band sculpture, and sometimes temporary pieces are brought in. There's also a Christmas tree in the winter, and concerts during the Malmö Festival in August.
