Kennebunkport, ME Summary
Kennebunkport photo

KENNEBUNKPORT was perfectly happy as a self-contained and exclusive residential district, before its worldwide exposure as the home of George Bush’s “summer White House.” If anything, locals seem to feel that George lowered the tone of the place by becoming president. However, Kennebunkport is not actually all that different from anywhere else along the coast – which is presumably what’s really bothering the locals. The best place to hang out (and eat seafood) is Alisson’s at 8 Dock Square (tel 207/967-4841), where dinner is served until 10pm and a pub menu available until 11pm; the bar stays open until 1am. There’s no great point paying in-town hotel rates when there are so many motels along the highways.
