A five-building complex that includes Quincy Market, there are more than 100 places to eat, shop and drink at this historic site. French merchant Peter Faneuil (pronounced FAN-you-wull) gave the hall that precedes the marketplace to his adopted home of Boston in 1742. It has been called the “Cradle of Liberty” because of the number of revolutionaries and abolitionists who delivered important speeches here. The hall is now a tourist center, but public meeting facilities are still available.

A little piece of commercialized history

ChristinaK5689's rating:

"Faneuil Hall stands out in Boston as one of the greatest tourist attractions. It offers multiple shops ranging from Brookstone to Urban Outfitters to several Boston souvenir shops. Additionally, one may be fortunate to catch one of the multiple street shows which vary from Incan pipeblowers to breakdancers to death-defying stuntsmen from Australia. Hungry? One can always grab a bite to eat inside the main building which has more than thirty fast-food places with gourmet and finger foods. Better yet, one can stop at the famous Cheers restaurant or if one has a sense of humor, Dick's Last Resort always provides a bit of fun. During the summer, there is a laser show at night. Located easily at the Government Center T-stop on the Orange Line, and right next to North Boston, Faneuil Hall is a prime stop for any person."

"No trip to Boston would be complete without a visit to Faneuil Hall Marketplace for good food and great shopping. For the sweet tooth among us, check out the “Boston Chipyard” for homemade chocolate chip cookies."
