Location. The Cornell Inn is located in Lenox, Mass., adjacent to Kennedy Park, which offers trails for hiking, biking, skiing and snowshoeing. Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, jazz concerts and ballets, is less than two miles from the inn. The Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum offers exhibits and train rides two miles away. Herman Melville’s Arrowhead Farm, the home of famous American writer Herman Melville, is less than four miles from the property.
Features. >This bed and breakfast consists of three separate homes. The Victorian-style Main House, built in 1888, offers a front porch with white wicker furniture. The Carriage House features a country style. The Colonial-style MacDonald House, built in 1777, boasts the original wide-plank floors, hand-hewn corner beams and a double-sided fireplace in the living room. The property features gardens and a koi pond with a cascading waterfall. Complimentary full breakfasts are served every morning from a menu that varies daily. Duffy’s Pub, located in the Main House, offers over a dozen beers from around the world, a selection of wine, a wide variety of mixed drinks, cable television and a laptop computer for guests’ use. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available throughout the Main House and in portions of the Carriage House. Fax and photocopy services are available. The Main House features a deck overlooking the pond. Pets are not allowed at the property.
Guestrooms. Guestrooms at the Cornell Inn feature private bathrooms. All accommodations offer cable television, air conditioning and telephones with digital voice mail. Select rooms in the Main House offer fireplaces. Jetted tubs, decks and fireplaces are available in select rooms in the Carriage House. Two loft suites in the Carriage House feature fully equipped kitchens. All rooms in the MacDonald House feature jetted tubs, fireplaces and decks.
Expert Tip. Built in 1889, the Carriage House was later used as a speakeasy during the Prohibition years in the 1920s. The MacDonald family, who built the oldest home on the property in 1777, has a rich history. Edward MacDonald served in the Civil War and went on to help found the Lenox National Bank and the Lenox Water Company. He was later elected as a State Representative.
