grab the web with gusto!

Gusto's new Gusto Grabber and how it's changed my life. First off I must say that I was one of the developers who wrote the gusto grabber code so it may appear that I have bias. That being said, I've not worked on a software project where the outcome has been so much fun to use. I know have a way to keep all my travel related bookmarks in a simple to organize system and allow them to be shared with anyone who is interested in where I've been and where I'm going. Having gone through many painful iterations during the planning phase of a trip which entailed:

10 SEARCH GOOGLE FOR DESTINATION INFORMATION

20 FOLLOW LOTS OF BAD LINKS

30 FINALLY FIND GOOD SITE

40 BOOKMARK IT VIA WEB BROWSER

50 GET HOME T0 SHOW MY WIFE THE GREATEST NEW TRAVEL DESTINATION

60 REALIZE I BOOK MARKED IT AT WORK AND CURSE

70 GOTO 10

Anyway, the Gusto Grabber has truly been liberating to use. It allows me to find the best content (some of which is right here on Gusto.com) on the web, comment on it, save a picture (they're worth a 1000 words I'm told) of something memorable from the page, and store it by destination and category if I choose. I've been creating loads of trips that I want to take as well as creating travel pages of things that I would recommend to friends and family so that now when I get that inevitable call from a friend or coworker asking me what to do in San Francisco or Austin (where I lived for several years each), I can just say goto places i've been on gusto and click Austin, TX or San Francisco, CA and provide them with a great starting point for all the places I've been to and enjoyed. I can't wait to see how this tool grows and progresses over the coming months as this idea is still in its infancy here on Gusto. I know there are tons of social bookmarking tools out there such as del.icio.us, yahoo bookmarks, google bookmarks, etc. but none of them do what the grabber does for me via it's simple to use interface and it's organizational capabilities and tie it into my travel world here at Gusto. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions about the grabber or would like to see some other features.

You should feel proud to be involved in that code – it's a tidy little tool. And you can add cities/towns that aren't actually in Gusto yet, by adding it to the grabber.

Thanks! Yes I’m proud also to work with the group of co-workers here at Gusto. I think we’re building a really great community and if we can help with a sprinkling of cool and useful technology then I’m more then happy to help it along.
