"My boss at the first newspaper I worked for introduced me to the Quaff – he’d spent quite a bit of time there when he worked for the AP and the Kansas City Star. You won’t notice anything special about the place when you walk in; the booths and tables aren’t fancy, there are games scattered around, and the TVs are usually turned to sports channels. But it’s a great place. All the folks who work here are friendly, and the owner, commonly referred to as Joe Quaff, makes the rounds and checks on everyone; he’s a great guy. The kitchen makes pretty good burgers and sandwiches (the BLT here is great); a lot of businesspeople stop by for lunch, and the kitchen stays open late. The bar closes at 3 a.m., so you can really have a long, fun night here. The Quaff attracts a pretty interesting cross-section of people, which is one of the things that makes it comfortable for pretty much everyone. It can get a little loud and boisterous, but Joe never lets things get out of hand, so you’re always ensured a good time."
