Summary of Lake of the Ozarks
This sprawling, dam-formed lake in west-central Missouri has 1,150 miles of irregular shoreline, and is one of the state’s most popular vacation destinations. The most-visited towns near the lakefront are Osage Beach (population 2,600) and Lake Ozark (population 700). Both lie on the lake’s eastern end, along Hwy 54, and are serviced by buses. Aside from boating, fishing, swimming, and golf, the area is popular for its many country music and variety shows. The nearby Ozark Caverns, southeast of Osage Beach, are also worth a look. The visitor center is open from April to October; special-interest tours are offered in the summer months.
