"I probably never would have noticed this place if my friend Rae hadn't taken me here – I'm so glad she did! Avanzare is one of my favorite restaurants in Springfield. It's a long, kind of narrow space tucked into the Plaza shopping center. Tony Garcia, the chef, is excellent. He makes great pastas (especially Pasta alla Tony) and – my favorite! – really great steaks. The Filetto Porto, a filet in a port wine reduction, is wonderful, as is the steak in a brandy tomato cream sauce, but my favorite is the steak in a mushroom sauce. The filets are so tender you can cut them with your fork, and they're always cooked perfectly. The wine selection here is very good, and if you have a favorite dish that's not on the main menu, Tony will make it for you if you call a day or two in advance and request it. What more could you want?"
